The Koyunoğlu Museum, Turkey's first private museum founded by a municipality, enchants visitors with its rich and diverse collection.
This museum holds a unique distinction as the inaugural private museum set up by municipalities in Turkey. In 1973, Ahmet Rasih Izzet Koyunoglu donated his impressive collection of ethnographic and folkloric objects, documents, and materials, along with handwritten and printed books, to the Municipality of Konya.
Within the museum, visitors can find a meeting room and two libraries housing manuscript works. Additionally, a building resembling a traditional Konya house is situated in the garden area, further enhancing the museum's charm.
Operating under the administration of the Konya Metropolitan Municipality, the Koyunoglu Museum functions both as a museum and a library, distinguishing itself with its rich collection. On the ground floor, visitors can explore archaeological artifacts related to Anatolian civilizations, coins, calligraphic works, a natural history section, and thematic exhibitions. The first floor features ethnographic artifacts, collections of carpets and kilims, and a selection of rosaries.
The museum boasts a remarkable library on the first floor, comprising 35,000 volumes, predominantly consisting of manuscripts. It is open six days a week, from 08:00 to 17:00, except on Sundays.
