The Individual Element in International Relations and The Universal/Global Role of Mawlana Jalal-Al-Din Rumi

The Individual Element in International Relations and The Universal/Global Role of Mawlana Jalal-Al-Din Rumi

When international relations are interpreted as all relationships that transcend the nation or -in a way- the state; individuals, such as non-governmental organizations (NGOs), international organizations and multinational companies (MNCs), have also evolved into actors and parties of international relations and global politics. In particular, the regulations of human rights, which have been determined under the umbrella of the United Nations and the Council of Europe and aimed at protecting the rights of the individual, have been factors that anchor the individual in becoming an actor of global politics with agreements and provisions in international law. In addition, the individual who has become active in foreign policy and diplomacy with its functions and missions as a diplomatic mediator, negotiator, representative, etc., has become an effective and powerful actor in global politics thanks to today’s advanced communication channels and social media platforms.
Mawlana continues to affect international relations deeply/silently both in his personality, in works, and in messages, just in accordance with this approach and development, as a historical actor and an Islamic scholar at the center of universal and global relations. Although centuries have passed since his death, whenever a hope for peace is sought, he has been one of the sources used; a station if one follows the trail of global and universal knowledge; and continues to be a safe haven for individuals who think that they have no spatial belonging to the global order. His doctrines and teachings continue to be a beacon of hope and cornerstone for humanity, especially when we consider the deep humanitarian, political, and economic crises experienced in almost every part of the world and modern times.
Leaving sema, ney, tomb visiting or ‘mawlana’-labeled nuts aside will be an extremely valuable endeavor to understand what Mawlana really means, to discover what calls he made to humanity in the messages he gave, and to fully understand the global situation that humanity is inside today. Not thinking or understanding the scholars with their teachings and the values they add to the world lead to the formation of a perception dominated by symbolism. In particular, the understanding of visiting mausoleums and lodges in pursuit of personal worldly help or the idea of tourism and touristic earnings, which are purely driven by financial interests, led to serve to manipulate universal/global personalities like Mawlana, who is a light of hope for humanity in every period of life and in all ages, and their messages.
Finally, seeing a Holy Sage like Mawlana with thousands of couplets and messages as only a call “Come, come, whoever you are...” and making humanity the only addressee of this call, and undermining thousands of motivating, crisis-ending, solution-finding, peace-loving and ending-wars and -conflicts messages will be one of the greatest evils that will be done to both our Mawlana and humanity. Also, seeing him only the calls for peace and humanity and ignoring his emphases on Allah, the Messenger, the Religion, Faith, Tawhid and other spiritual elements and values reflects another strangeness.
Let’s see what is, as it is, and without distorting it; this is enough for us…
In these days when we commemorate him, I wish Mawlana mercy and blessings...
