600-Year-Old Historic Bath to Become a Water Museum

Konya Metropolitan Municipality continues the restoration of the Karamanoğlu Mehmet Bey Bath, located next to the historic Meram Bridge, without interruption.

Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay visited the Karamanoğlu Mehmet Bey Bath, one of Konya’s significant historical structures, to review the restoration project that will preserve it for future generations and received an update on the latest progress.

IT WILL BE DESIGNED AS A DIGITAL WATER MUSEUM

Following the inspection, Mayor Altay stated that they are carrying out significant projects in Meram, one of Konya’s most important landmarks, and that the restoration of the Karamanoğlu Mehmet Bey Bath continues without interruption.

Mayor Altay stated, “First, we addressed the drainage areas around the structure. Then, we carried out a significant restoration to reveal the bricks inside. Hopefully, after the holiday, we will complete the building’s restoration with lead coating and exterior sandblasting. We aim to create a water museum inside. As you know, due to climate change, Konya is facing a serious drought issue. We hope to establish a digital museum here to educate visitors in Meram about the value of water. I extend my gratitude to everyone involved in the restoration efforts. May it be beneficial for our city.”

The Karamanoğlu Mehmet Bey Bath in Konya was built in 1424 during the era of the Karamanoğulları Beylik. Konya Metropolitan Municipality is restoring this 652-square-meter historical structure, which consists of 16 sections and has deteriorated over time, to bring it back into tourism.
