800-Year-Old Obruk Cemetery in Konya

Obruk Cemetery, located in Konya and situated right across from the historic Obruk Caravanserai, which dates back about 800 years, is considered one of the remarkable examples of Anatolia’s ancient cultural heritage.

Obruk Cemetery, located in the Obruk neighborhood of Karatay, Konya, is one of the city’s oldest burial grounds. With a history dating back around 800 years, it is believed to have been established during the Seljuk period and sits just across from the historic Obruk Caravanserai. 

The cemetery is home to numerous old gravestones, each carrying significant cultural and historical value.

Today, Obruk Cemetery is considered an open-air heritage site and is under preservation efforts by the Karatay Municipality. 

Studies in the area highlight its importance as part of the Turkish-Islamic heritage of Anatolia. With its historical atmosphere and unique setting, the cemetery offers visitors a glimpse into the deep-rooted past of the region.
