Çarşı Mosque: History in Beyşehir

Çarşı Mosque: History in Beyşehir

Beyşehir City Center Çarşı Mosque is a mosque located in the Evsat Neighborhood, inside the bazaar area of Beyşehir's city center. It was built in 1823 by Hacı Lütfullah Ağa, and the minaret was added later by Celepoğlu.

Since the old mosque was demolished and a new one was built in its place in 1960, the current structure is not in accordance with its original form.

According to the foundation certificate of the mosque, dated 1823, al-Hâc Lütfullah Ağa, who was the Mutesellim of the Beyşehir Sanjak at that time, dedicated 6 shops to the mosque, belonging to him, located in the bazaar and just below the building.

According to the conditions of the foundation, these shops would be rented to those who request it through the agency of the trustees and thus the wages of those working in the mosque will be covered by the revenues provided to the foundation. Hacı Lütfullah Ağa Mosque, which is located around the tradesmen's shops in the bazaar since the days it was built, has therefore been called the Çarşı Mosque and has not preserved its old name. Unfortunately, apart from the minaret, which was built in 1960, it has lost its originality.
