Discover the Beauty and History of Konya's Aziziye Mosque

The Aziziye Mosque in Konya, distinguished by its windows that are larger than its door, stands out as the only mosque from the Ottoman period with this feature. This mosque, with its magnificent 17th-century architecture, attracts the attention of both domestic and foreign tourists.

The Aziziye Mosque is a historical mosque dating back to the 17th-century Ottoman period in Konya. Built by Sheikh Ahmet between 1671 and 1676, the mosque suffered a fire and was subsequently reconstructed in 1867, thanks to Sultan Abdulaziz's mother, Pertevniyal Sultan. This mosque, which is one of the late Ottoman architectural works, carries traces of European Baroque architecture.

The single-dome, twin-minaret mosque also has a small three-dome space for the last congregation. The Aziziye Mosque is one of the final architectural works of the Ottoman Empire, and as a result, it exhibits European influences within the mosque's design.

The mosque, constructed in the Turkish Baroque architectural style, is entirely built using cut stone, setting it apart from other mosques with this distinctive feature. This characteristic makes the Aziziye Mosque unique and distinguishes it from others.

In history, the exact architect responsible for the design of the Aziziye Mosque is not known for certain. However, it is believed to have been constructed under the patronage of the Sultan's mother, Pertevniyal Sultan.

The most striking feature of the mosque is its windows, which are built larger than its doors. The reason for this is to allow more light into the mosque during the winter months. The Aziziye Mosque takes on a completely different appearance in the evening. It is indeed one of the most beautiful mosques in the province of Konya.

The Aziziye Mosque is a historical mosque located in the Aziziye neighborhood of the Karatay district in Konya. It is easily accessible both by public transportation and private vehicles. After arriving in Konya city center, you can take advantage of the bus stops in the area to reach the Karatay district. Once you're in Karatay, you can also reach the Aziziye Mosque by using minibusses or taxis for transportation.
