The motif of the crescent and star, as well as the
inscriptions on the lost plaque, at the Sırçalı Masjid Fountain, which was
built during the Ottoman period in Konya, has become a subject of curiosity.
According to experts, there are comments suggesting that the
traces of the government of that period can be seen in the construction date of
the fountain. Furthermore, the fact that the inscription on the fountain is
missing has intensified curiosity. Based on the interpretations, it is believed
that the fountain held a special significance, and the lost inscription
possibly contained clues or information related to its unique location.
The lack of substantial information about the fountain in
history and research books has further strengthened the doubts surrounding the
Sırçalı Masjid Fountain. The rumors about its distinct style compared to other
fountains in Konya have added to the speculation. As the mystery deepens, the
unique characteristics of the fountain continue to pique curiosity among
researchers and historians.
In history and research books, information about the
fountain's entire structure is provided, but the lack of sufficient details
about its inscription has strengthened suspicions. Two different sources
contain the following information:
The fountain, located in front of the Sırçalı Masjid on
Kuzgunkavak Street in Nakipoğlu neighborhood, Karatay district, was built in
1909, according to its missing inscription. Constructed using Sille stone, the
fountain stands as a single-faced, independent structure among street
fountains. The main arrangement of the facade is reminiscent of tomb monuments.
As decorative elements, crescent and star motifs are observed above the tap's
mirror, flanked by symmetric empty cartouches and grooved frames.
