Historic Gevale Castle to Boost Konya Tourism

Historic Gevale Castle to Boost Konya Tourism

Restoration work is underway to bring Gevale Castle, located at an altitude of approximately 1,700 meters on the summit of Takkeli Mountain, to Konya tourism.

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Selçuklu Municipality, and Necmettin Erbakan University are showcasing an exemplary collaboration to integrate this historic structure into Konya's tourism sector.

Significant findings have been uncovered so far through the efforts at Gevale Castle, which has great potential from a tourism perspective.

The meticulously conducted efforts on the historic mountain, which bears traces of many civilizations spanning thousands of years from the Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, Karamanid, and Ottoman periods, are of great importance.

As part of the third phase of restoration work at Gevale Castle, the conservation and restoration of over 100 cisterns are being carried out in accordance with the project plans.

Teams carrying out the macro injection strengthening and conservation of the walls are also continuing with the stabilization, conservation, and restoration of other residential ruins.

Additionally, the restoration of walkways, tunnels, baths, and places of worship is also ongoing. The third phase of the project is planned to be completed by the end of 2024.
