Konya Metropolitan Municipality is meticulously carrying out excavation works to uncover the Larende Gate and city walls, which are among the most important components of the Darülmülk Project.
Konya Museum Director Ömer Faruk Türkan, who briefed Mayor Altay about the works, stated that they are working to uncover the Larende Gate, saying, “At this point, approximately 70 percent of the gate has been revealed. As we know from 19th-century engravings and historical sources, this section is indeed where the Larende Gate stood—we are right on the spot. We have determined that the gate primarily faced west. We also plan to continue excavating the outer walls and will uncover them as well, including the moat in front. Our goal is to create a large archaeological park in this area.”
Konya Metropolitan Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay reminded that Konya served as the capital of the Seljuk State for 200 years and that many significant historical structures were built during this period, although many of them have not survived to the present day.
