Meram Municipality is turning the Seljuk-era bath remains, uncovered during the Şükran Urban Transformation Project in Sahibata Neighborhood, into one of Konya’s landmark structures by covering it with a geodesic glass dome.
Meram Municipality has reached another milestone in the Şükran Urban Transformation Project, which brings to light the city’s historical heritage and helps rebuild Konya’s identity in the heart of the city.
The largest Seljuk-era bath remains uncovered during excavations in Sahibata Neighborhood will be preserved and opened to visitors by being covered with a special geodesic glass dome.
Meram Mayor Mustafa Kavuş visited the site to inspect this special project, which will shed light on history and add aesthetic value to the Suriçi area.
After meeting with the project engineers, Mayor Kavuş made the following statement:
“As part of our Şükran Urban Transformation Project, we are carrying out a very special project for the largest Seljuk-era bath remains uncovered during excavations. The geodesic glass dome will not only ensure the preservation of this unique structure but will also bring modern architecture together with the history of our city. This structure, which lets in daylight and adds a distinctive silhouette to the city at night, will become one of Konya’s new landmarks. We will soon inaugurate it and open it to both our residents and visitors. At the same time, we are also preparing the tile kiln located beneath the adjacent building for visitors. The value we place on history will be one of the most important legacies we leave for future generations.”
