Karatay Mayor Hasan Kılca stated that the Obruk Museum Hotel has hosted 90,000 visitors since its opening.
Karatay Mayor Hasan Kılca, in a message released on the occasion of Museums Week from May 18 to 24, emphasized the importance of preserving cultural heritage, keeping it alive, and passing it on to future generations.
One of the most important projects that Karatay Municipality has implemented in this direction, the Obruk Museum Hotel, preserves traces of the past while also contributing to cultural tourism.
The Obruk Caravanserai, an approximately 800-year-old structure from the Seljuk period, was carefully restored over four years by Karatay Municipality. Located on the Konya-Aksaray road, the historic building was saved from its neglected state and transformed into both a museum and a hotel. During the restoration, original architectural details were faithfully preserved, ensuring that the historical texture was maintained and passed down to future generations.
Located right next to the Kızören Sinkhole, the Museum Hotel has welcomed 90,000 visitors since its opening, bringing vitality to regional tourism. The building, which prominently features Seljuk architectural elements, attracts the interest of both architecture enthusiasts and history lovers.
Karatay Mayor Hasan Kılca said, “Konya is the cradle of civilization with its history, architecture, and cultural fabric. As Karatay Municipality, we carry out significant efforts to preserve, promote, and keep these values alive.”
Mayor Hasan Kılca emphasized that Museums Week offers an important opportunity for cultural awareness and said, “Museums are the most special places where art, culture, history, and civilization come together. These venues contribute to both the intellectual and emotional development of individuals and strengthen our connection with the past. As Karatay Municipality, we reinforce this connection through exemplary projects like the Obruk Museum Hotel, carrying our history not only to the present but also to the future. Since its opening, the Obruk Museum Hotel has become a key destination for thousands of local and foreign visitors and was even awarded the ‘Project Award’ by the Union of Historical Towns. This demonstrates how successful an investment we have made. On this occasion, I invite all our citizens to connect with our cultural heritage and visit museums during Museums Week.”
