At the Odeon of the 2,000-year-old Anemurium Ancient City, which bears many traces from the Ancient Age to the present and whose restoration has been completed, piano melodies filled the air.
The concert was attended by Anamur District Governor Kemal Duru, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Ambassador to Ankara İsmet Korukoğlu, TRNC Consul in Mersin Özgür Ezel, Selçuk University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Haldun Soydal, Dean of Selçuk University Faculty of Literature Prof. Dr. Ali Temizel, Dean of Selçuk University Faculty of Tourism Prof. Dr. Bünyamin Ayhan, members of the provincial and district protocol, and other guests.
Prof. Dr. Mehmet Tekocak, head of the excavation, stated that the Odeon in the ancient city was built in the 2nd century AD and said that history has come alive once again. He added, "The Odeon was used as a venue for musical performances during the Ancient Age as well. Music melodies have risen to the sky once again from the stones of antiquity. We have now restored a structure that can accommodate approximately one thousand people, allowing cultural and social events to be held at Anemurium."
Under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Mehmet Tekocak, a faculty member of Selçuk University’s Department of Archaeology, excavation, research, and restoration efforts at the site continue uninterrupted throughout the year, with various events occasionally organized as well.
