Konya Metropolitan Municipality Social Innovation Agency (SİA) and the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences at Necmettin Erbakan University jointly organized the Seljuk Cities Discovery Program.
As part of the “SİA Learning Program,” the initiative was organized to explore Anatolia’s historic Seljuk cities through their architectural, cultural, and social dimensions. The program featured theoretical courses, hands-on workshops, and field trips, offering participants an opportunity to examine the traces of Seljuk civilization.
With contributions from expert academics, the training sessions addressed topics such as urban identity, architectural heritage, and cultural continuity. Participants had the opportunity to experience Seljuk ornamental arts through the Color and Motif Workshop, and to analyze the knowledge they gained and develop their own interpretations through the Mind Map Workshop.
In addition, as part of World Urbanism Day, a technical field trip was organized during which participants visited historical sites such as Alaeddin Mosque, Kılıçarslan Pavilion, Karatay Madrasa, Sırçalı Madrasa, the Bedesten, Sahip Ata Complex, and the Şükran Neighborhood. During these visits, participants observed stone craftsmanship, ornamental arts, and urban planning practices.
The “Seljuk Cities Discovery Program” aimed to strengthen young people’s sense of history and cultural awareness by bringing together the traces of the past with today’s learning experiences.
