Zalmanda Inn: A Historical Caravanserai in Konya

Zalmanda Inn: A Historical Caravanserai in Konya

The Zalmanda Inn is a historical building located approximately ten kilometers south of Koçyaka village in Altınekin, Konya, Turkey.

There is no inscription on the building, but its architectural features, such as the furnaces and reinforcement arches built with bricks inside the inn,  date it back to the Period of Principalities.

The inn has a covered shelter section with three naves and a barrel vault roof carried by pointed arches.  While there is no specific information about the history of the building itself, the entire Su-ulmanda (today's Sulmanda or Zalmanda) area is registered as a foundation in a foundation certificate dated 1446 from Sultan Hatun, daughter of Yusuf Shah.  This suggests that the inn may have been part of a larger complex that served travelers on the historical trade routes in the area.
