99.8 Million Cubic Meters of Wastewater Reused in One Year

99.8 Million Cubic Meters of Wastewater Reused in One Year

Konya Metropolitan Municipality protects environmental health through its advanced biological wastewater treatment plants while contributing to the sustainability of water resources by reusing treated water.

Uğur İbrahim Altay, Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality, stated that the Ilgın, Çumra, Doğanhisar, Derebucak, and Taşkent Advanced Biological Wastewater Treatment Plants were completed and put into service in 2025.

Emphasizing that KOSKİ has built a total of 14 wastewater treatment plants across Konya since 2018, Uğur İbrahim Altay said, “With the completion of our latest investments, the total number of wastewater treatment plants across the province has reached 49. Equipped with advanced biological treatment technologies, these facilities ensure that wastewater is treated without harming the environment while also enabling the reuse of water.”

Stating that these investments aim both to protect the environment and to ensure the efficient and responsible use of water resources, Uğur İbrahim Altay said they continue to add value to Konya’s future, adding:

“Within 2025, a total of 99,839,191 cubic meters of wastewater was treated and returned to use at our wastewater treatment plants in Konya. In addition, 4,476,286 kilowatt-hours of electrical energy were generated from sewage sludge. Treated water, which can be used especially for agricultural irrigation, makes a significant contribution to preserving existing water reserves while also offering a sustainable solution against the risk of drought. We will continue our environmental investments in areas where they are needed.”

Across Konya, a total of 49 wastewater treatment plants—31 biological and 18 natural—contribute significantly to environmental protection and sustainable water management with a daily treatment capacity of 328,477 cubic meters. Konya
