The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, together with Konya Metropolitan Municipality, is continuing intensive work on the KONYARAY Suburban Line, one of the most significant transportation investments in Konya’s history.
Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality, Uğur İbrahim Altay, stated that Konya, the first city in Anatolia to introduce the tram system, continues to gain new rail system investments, emphasizing that the KONYARAY Suburban Line is a highly significant project realized within this scope.
Altay stated, “In the first stage, extending 23 kilometers from Meram Station to the Logistics Center and then to Aşağı Pınarbaşı, TCDD is carrying out the construction works without interruption, while we are managing the vehicle procurement process. At present, the construction has reached approximately 80 percent completion. While the pedestrian underpass works on Demiryolu Avenue are progressing rapidly, we have also made significant progress in the station constructions near the Organized Industrial Zone and the Logistics Center. Once this major investment, which will add value to our city, is completed, Konya will gain access to a faster, safer, and more comfortable transportation system.”
Mayor Altay emphasized that with the growing population and urbanization, strengthening the transportation infrastructure has become inevitable, stating: “We must establish a modern and integrated transportation network in line with Konya’s expanding structure. KONYARAY is one of the most concrete steps of this vision. Rail systems, which are both environmentally friendly and cost-effective, will make daily life easier for our citizens. We plan to put the KONYARAY Suburban Line into service in 2027, God willing. I would like to express my gratitude to our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, our Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Mr. Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, and the General Director of TCDD, Mr. Veysi Kurt, for their support.”
