Konya Metropolitan Municipality is working intensively to complete the City Library, which will be Turkey’s first zero-carbon building.
Examining the ongoing construction work at the City Library on-site, Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay stated that work on the library, which will be built for young people on the site of the municipality's former building, is progressing without interruption.
Mayor Altay stated, “With its architecture, aesthetics, and functionality, we are building one of Turkey’s model libraries. Additionally, our library will be Turkey’s first zero-carbon building, serving as a significant milestone in the fight against climate change. We are working tirelessly, day and night, to complete this building, which will feature reading halls, meeting areas, and services for people of all ages. Of course, we are in the month of Ramadan, and despite fasting, our teams are putting in great effort. I would like to thank them on behalf of the people of Konya.”
Mayor Altay continued, “Our biggest priority here is preserving the existing trees. We designed the building’s architecture accordingly. Shaped around the current trees and complemented by additional greenery, we are bringing one of Turkey’s most beautiful structures to Konya—a place where people can read in its garden. Inspired by the architectural essence of Beyşehir’s Eşrefoğlu Mosque, this project will be a valuable addition to our city. We are proud to dedicate such an important space to young people on one of Konya’s most precious plots of land. Architecturally, it will also enhance Konya’s cultural landscape. I hope it will be beneficial for our city.”
