The Konya Blue Tunnel Drinking Water Project

The Konya Blue Tunnel Drinking Water Project

Konya Metropolitan Municipality has signed a very important project for the safe and long-term supply of drinking water.

The Konya Metropolitan Municipality has undertaken a highly significant project for the secure and long-term supply of drinking water to Konya. In this context, they have implemented the Konya Blue Tunnel Drinking Water Project to transfer water from the source in the Toros Mountains to the city's water network, maintaining the quality of the spring water from the Toros Mountains.

Through this project, the annual allocation of 100 million cubic meters of water transferred to the Konya Closed Basin will meet the drinking and utility water needs of Konya city center, as well as the Çumra district and Içeri Çumra neighborhood until the year 2050.

As part of the project, a 120-kilometer-long, 2.20-meter-diameter steel transmission line, a booster station, the Belkuyu Pedestrian and Transmission Bridge with a span of 136 meters, a 1,500 cubic meter capacity water reservoir, and the Blue Tunnel Drinking Water Treatment Plant with a daily capacity of 366,000 cubic meters were constructed. Following the completion of the construction, water was taken into the treatment plant, and performance tests were initiated. With the commissioning of the transmission line and treatment plant completed under the Konya Blue Tunnel Drinking Water Project, water of the quality from the source in the Toros Mountains is supplied to the city.
