Indispensable taste of Ramadan in Konya: pita with tahini

Tahini pita, which is special in the Konya cuisine, attracts great attention during Ramadan. Fatih Yemenici, who has been making tahini pita for 50 years said that “We receive high demand both from Konya and from outside the province. Pita with tahini is called as the dessert of iftar dinners and the food that does not make you hungry and thirsty during the fast when you eat it at sahur period.”


Pita made of dough and tahini, unique to the Kadınhanı district, adorns the tables in Ramadan. The interest in tahini pita, which can be eaten as a dessert by pouring sherbet on it or consumed as a pita with tea, is quite high.

Continuing his father's profession, pide maker Fatih Yemenici said that “we make all kinds of tahini pita. “My father has been doing this job for about 50 years. As the second generation, we try to continue it as much as we can. I have been with my father since childhood. Tahini is a widely consumed food item during Ramadan. Tahini pita is also a preferred food item in sahur, as it keeps you full in Ramadan and does not make you thirsty. In addition, we serve the sherbet together with pita, and when you pour the sherbet on, it becomes a dessert like kadayif. This decorates the iftar tables. Pita with tahini is the dessert of iftar tables and the pita of sahur tables. It is a food that keeps you full and does not make you thirsty.”
