Durmuş Sütemen, who has been a street musician since the age
of 5, using the century-old violin inherited from his father, has been
traveling from city to city for 45 years, earning a living by practicing his
father's profession.
After losing his father at the age of 9, Durmuş Sütemen, who
traveled every inch of Central Anatolia with the century-old violin inherited
from his father, continued to sustain himself as a street musician, standing on
his own feet. Within this framework, Sütemen went to the Karapınar district of
Konya, showcasing his talent by wandering from street to street. Singing folk
songs with his violin on the streets and in workplaces, Durmuş Sütemen earns
his livelihood through the tips he collects.
Durmuş Sütemen, expressing that his father was also involved
in music, said, "It is saddening that the current generation doesn't
understand or listen to these songs; they prefer different types of music. In
fact, folk songs depict real-life experiences. I have been involved in music
since the age of 5. I can play almost all musical instruments. My father was
also a musician. When I lost him at the age of 9, I started standing on my own
feet. Actually, we provide free concerts to the public on the streets. We don't
ask people for money; they give it willingly from their hearts if they enjoy
the music and if we touch their hearts with our performance."
