10,000 Butterflies for Seb-i Arus in Konya!

10,000 Butterflies for Seb-i Arus in Konya!

For the 751st anniversary of Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi's passing, 10,000 butterfly cocoons were placed in the Konya Tropical Butterfly Garden to welcome visitors attending the Seb-i Arus events.

Visitors coming to the city for the commemoration ceremonies held from December 7 to 17 will have the chance to witness butterflies' first wing flutters in the garden. Hosting around 30,000 butterflies—nearly three times the usual number—the garden will offer an enriched observation experience for its guests.

The Chief Biologist of the Tropical Butterfly Garden, Turgut Tuş, stated that preparations for the Seb-i Arus ceremonies have been meticulously completed.

Tuş explained, "We have brought 10,000 pupae to our garden, where visitors will create beautiful memories. Normally, butterflies also arrive in the pupa stage, but this time, the number is significantly higher. This will allow our visitors to witness the birth of a butterfly. During every Seb-i Arus, the number of butterflies in our garden increased. This year, by bringing in pupae intensively, we have enhanced the opportunity to observe the butterfly birth process. Under normal circumstances, caterpillars hide their pupae among trees, branches, and leaves. However, in our garden, these pupae are preserved in special cabinets, making it much easier for our visitors to witness this moment."

Tuş noted that the pupae are placed inside the cabinets using special sticks, stating, "We want our visitors to observe these cabinets where the pupae are placed with extra care. They might have the chance to witness the moment of birth and see a butterfly's first wing flutter."

Tuş emphasized that the garden has very specific temperature and humidity conditions, adding that, with its 2,000-square-meter area, it holds the distinction of being Europe's largest butterfly garden.
