Konya Meets Nearly 67% of Türkiye’s Carrot Demand

The carrot harvest continues in Konya, which produces nearly 67 percent of Türkiye’s carrots. The crop is supplied to both domestic and international markets.

Harvesting continues across Kaşınhanı Neighborhood and surrounding areas in Konya’s Meram district, bringing positive results for local growers. Carefully cultivated over a period of 120 days, the carrots stand out for their vibrant orange color and distinctive flavor, both derived from their natural pigments. Producers say they deliberately use high-quality farmland that has been left fallow for four to five years in order to preserve soil fertility.

Growers noted that excessive rainfall made planting particularly challenging this season, while limited options for pest and insect control created additional difficulties. Despite these challenges, Konya continues to meet a significant share of Türkiye’s carrot demand while exporting its produce to countries including Romania, Bulgaria, Saudi Arabia, and Georgia, making an important contribution to the national economy.

After harvest, the carrots are carefully sorted by women working at packaging facilities, where they are graded according to size. Producers expect domestic demand to increase significantly once the holiday season ends and schools reopen, with consumption expected to peak during the winter months when carrots are widely enjoyed as a seasonal vegetable. By maintaining high soil quality and sustainable production practices, Konya continues to deliver fresh, high-quality carrots to tables across Türkiye and beyond.
