231 Million TL Investment Put into Service

231 Million TL Investment Put into Service

The Karatay Bread Factory and Gluten-Free Bread Production Facility, established by Karatay Municipality with an investment value of 231 million Turkish lira, has been officially inaugurated with a ceremony.

With a production capacity of 10,000 loaves per hour, the facility is set to become a significant production center not only for Konya but also for Türkiye as a whole, thanks to its gluten-free production line and wide product range.

Designed to provide citizens with access to affordable, healthy, and high-quality bread, the facility is built on a 5,510-square-meter plot with a 4,095-square-meter indoor area. It consists of a basement, ground floor, and two upper floors. With this investment, Karatay Municipality’s gluten-free food production activities, which have been ongoing since 2019, are now supported by a much stronger infrastructure.

Operating under the concept of “Karatay, the Production Hub of Gluten-Free Food,” the facility will produce a wide range of bakery products, particularly gluten-free bread. These products, developed for individuals with celiac disease and gluten sensitivity, will meet demand not only in Konya but also in many cities across Türkiye.

PRODUCTION CAPACITY OF 10,000 LOAVES PER HOUR

The Karatay Bread Factory employs 120 staff members and has a production capacity of 10,000 loaves of 200-gram bread per hour. The facility produces an average of 25 million loaves annually, which are distributed to citizens through 39 public bread kiosks located across Karatay.

The facility also houses two tunnel ovens, one stone oven, and four convection ovens. Combining industrial-scale production with traditional baking methods, it prioritizes both quality and healthy production standards.

Commenting on the opening of the facility, Karatay Mayor Hasan Kılca stated that the new investment would significantly increase both production capacity and product diversity, enabling faster and more comprehensive services for citizens.

Mayor Kılca noted that the facility would expand the variety of bakery products, especially gluten-free options, and strengthen the ability to meet rising demand not only from Konya but also from other cities across Türkiye.

Emphasizing that municipal governance is not limited to infrastructure services, Kılca said: “Today, we are not only inaugurating a factory. We are witnessing a new stage in production, social municipal services, healthy food, and a human-centered service approach. These are investments that directly touch human health. The facility we are opening today is one of them.”

He also underlined that gluten-free production is not a recent initiative, stating that work carried out since 2019 has already attracted demand from many cities across Türkiye.

Looking ahead, Kılca added that they aim to become one of the pioneering municipalities in sourdough bread production by developing their own sourdough cultures. “Our goal is not only to produce more bread, but to produce healthier, higher-quality, and more refined products. As Karatay Municipality, we will continue to implement projects that make life easier for our citizens, generate social benefit, and serve as examples,” he said.
