Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay announced that all the electricity consumed by the Konya Metropolitan Municipality will be sourced from renewable energy.
Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay stated that they have taken a significant step in line with Turkey's energy efficiency goals. He said, “As part of our efforts to combat climate change and in accordance with sustainability principles, we have taken a major step toward implementing a 70-megawatt Solar Power Plant (GES) Project focused on green energy management. The tender for our 70-megawatt GES Project, which is planned to supply all the electricity consumed by Konya Metropolitan Municipality and our KOSKİ General Directorate from renewable energy sources, was held yesterday. Our project has attracted great interest from both national and international contractors. Once the construction is complete, the total electricity consumption of the Metropolitan Municipality and KOSKİ will be fully met by green energy. In addition, the project will contribute significantly to emission reduction efforts in the fight against global climate change.”
The massive solar power investment that will fully cover the electricity needs of Konya Metropolitan Municipality and the KOSKİ General Directorate is being financed through international green funds with favorable conditions, taking into account the payback period of the project. As part of this effort, a World Bank fund has been secured under the coordination of İller Bank.
