Selçuk University Hosts International Health Congress on AI and Digital Transformation

The 11th International Health Sciences and Management Congress (IHMC), hosted by Selçuk University, has started with the theme “Smart Transformation in Healthcare: Artificial Intelligence.” The congress, where the latest developments in health management are being discussed, has brought together academics, researchers, industry representatives, and students from Türkiye and abroad.

Organized by the Department of Health Management at Selçuk University’s Faculty of Health Sciences, the three-day congress will feature a total of 255 presentations, including 167 in-person and 88 online.

The congress, which focuses on topics such as artificial intelligence in healthcare, digital transformation, remote healthcare services, e-health applications, health economics, patient safety, and health informatics, is attended by nearly 500 participants from Türkiye and four other countries.

Associate Professor Dr. Yusuf Yavuz, Provincial Director of Health in Konya, stated that artificial intelligence will play an increasingly active role in healthcare services.

“We cannot stand in the way of artificial intelligence. What matters is having the competence to manage this technology. In the near future, a new healthcare model in which patients are monitored remotely and treatment processes are managed through digital systems will become part of our lives,” Yavuz said.

Professor Dr. Yunus Emre Öztürk, Head of the Department of Health Management at Selçuk University, stated that the congress addresses artificial intelligence not only as a technical innovation but also in terms of its ethical and social dimensions.

“When we talk about artificial intelligence in healthcare, we must discuss not only algorithms, but also privacy, trust, justice, and human dignity. The fundamental responsibility of healthcare administrators is not only to use technology, but also to manage it within ethical and scientific boundaries,” Öztürk said.

Professor Dr. Ramazan Erdem, Head of the Department of Health Management at Süleyman Demirel University, also highlighted the interdisciplinary nature of the congress. He stated that they have created a congress format that encourages the participation of young people and brings together different disciplines as well as academics from various countries, adding that they aim to establish a strong academic interaction environment extending from local to global levels.

Following the opening speeches, the Modern Folk Music Sufi Ensemble of the Konya Metropolitan Municipality performed a musical recital. The congress continued with an opening panel moderated by Professor Dr. Haydar Sur from Üsküdar University.
