Seval Öz, who was born in Konya, Turkey, and is sister of Turkish-American heart surgeon and public figure Dr. Mehmet Öz, has been nominated to a newly created Deputy Assistant Secretary position at the U.S. Department of Transportation.
A technology leader with extensive experience in autonomous vehicles, including a key role in Google's self-driving car program, her nomination has been submitted to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation for confirmation. Her appointment would mark another milestone for Turkish-American representation in the U.S. government.
