Within the scope of Karatay Municipality’s “Zero Point of Waste” project, 2,157 tons of waste have been recycled since 2022, while the project has reached more than 11,200 citizens, making a significant contribution to both the environment and the economy.
The project, implemented by Karatay Municipality to spread zero waste awareness, bring recyclable waste into the economy, and protect the environment, continues successfully. Within the scope of the works carried out throughout the district, thousands of citizens are included in the project and contribute to recycling processes.
Within the scope of the project, citizens earn points by delivering 8 different types of waste—glass, paper-cardboard, waste batteries, electronic waste, plastic, vegetable waste oil, mixed waste, and metal—to the centres and can redeem their accumulated points from the reward pool.
The application, which was launched at two points in 2022, has been expanded in line with increasing interest and has been providing service at four points as of 2024: Traffic Park, Aslanlı Barracks, Fetih Street, and Sedirler Street. While an average of 70-80 tons of waste is collected monthly at four points, registration and delivery processes are carried out in a coordinated manner.
According to the results obtained within the scope of the “Zero Point of Waste” project since June 5, 2022, a total of 2,157 tons of waste has been recycled. In this way, the cutting of 23,839 trees has been prevented, and the recycling process has provided an economic added value of over 10 million TL to the municipality. In addition, savings of 1,532,000 litres of oil, approximately 8 million kWh of energy, and 29,656 cubic meters of water have been achieved; 278,476 kilograms of greenhouse gas emissions and more than 25 million cubic meters of water pollution have been prevented.
