AFAD Identifies 684 Sinkholes in the Konya Closed Basin

As part of the Sinkhole Susceptibility Map study carried out by the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), 684 sinkholes were recorded in Konya, Karaman and Aksaray.

In the Konya Plain, the number of sinkholes caused by climate change, drought and uncontrolled use of underground water continues to increase every year.

SINKHOLES OBSERVED IN 12 DISTRICTS OF KONYA

Of the sinkholes in the city, 534 were recorded in Karapınar, while the others were identified in Cihanbeyli, Çumra, Karatay, Akören, Selçuklu, Çeltik, Sarayönü, Kadınhanı, Altınekin, Ilgın and Ereğli.
