The Konya Metropolitan Municipality continues to support a sustainable environment through eco-friendly energy production and effective waste management.
Mayor Ugur Ibrahim Altay emphasized that the municipality strives to be a pioneer and leader in addressing global challenges such as climate change and drought through environmentally conscious investments in Konya.
Mayor Altay highlighted the facilities aimed at reducing climate change effects and creating a sustainable environment. Electricity is produced from methane gas generated at the Konya Solid Waste Landfill and other district landfill facilities, as well as from sludge obtained during wastewater treatment by the KOSKİ General Directorate.
In solid waste management, the municipality has established solid waste transfer stations in multiple districts, including Selçuklu, Altınekin, Kulu, Cihanbeyli, Sarayönü, Çeltik, and Yunak. The modern and environmentally friendly Thermal Disposal Facility ensures waste disposal without harming the environment. Through these investments and sustainable energy projects, Konya is being prepared for a cleaner future.
The Medical Waste Sterilization Facility, part of the Konya Solid Waste Landfill and Energy Production Facility, manages medical waste efficiently. Licensed vehicles collect the waste, which is sterilized on-site, ensuring safe disposal with a daily processing capacity of 10 tons.
In addition to these initiatives, the municipality continues to generate electricity through wind and solar energy systems, further strengthening Konya’s commitment to sustainability.
