Selçuklu Mayor Ahmet Pekyatırmacı inspected the third phase of restoration work at Gevale Castle, which is nearing completion.
Mayor Pekyatırmacı, stating that the work at the historic castle, which carries the traces of different civilizations, is nearing completion, said, "Once our work is finished, we will have added an important destination to our city's tourism."
As part of its commitment to history, Selçuklu Municipality continues to uncover historical and cultural assets and contribute them to tourism.
In this context, efforts are being carried out intensively to bring Gevale Castle, located at an altitude of approximately 1,700 meters on the summit of Takkeli Mountain, which dominates Konya, into the city's tourism.
The historical structure, located at the summit of Konya, where history is gradually being revealed, is being brought into Konya's tourism through an exemplary collaboration between the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Selçuklu Municipality.
Significant discoveries have been made through the ongoing work at Gevale Castle, which holds great potential for tourism.
Takkeli Mountain is a symbolic site in Konya, the capital of the Seljuk Sultanate of Rum, home to numerous civilizations and featuring walls and towers that are the subjects of legends. The mountain, which bears the traces of many civilizations from the Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, Karamanids, and Ottoman periods, has been meticulously restored. These efforts are of great importance due to the mountain's long history and rich cultural heritage.
As part of the third phase of restoration work at Gevale Castle, the conservation and restoration of over 100 cisterns have been completed according to project guidelines. Teams that carried out the micro-injection strengthening and conservation of the walls have also nearly completed the strengthening, conservation, and restoration of other residential ruins. Additionally, the restoration of walkways, corridors, the bathhouse, and worship areas has been completed. While the third phase of applications at the castle is coming to an end according to the plans, efforts to open the fully completed structures to tourism, including destination guidance and other activities, will continue.
