Groundbreaking Study to Illuminate the History of Konya

Konya Metropolitan Municipality will make a significant contribution to shedding light on the history of Konya through archaeological excavations in the 100th year of the Republic, by undertaking an important project that will support archaeological studies in the historical cities of the region.

Konya Metropolitan Municipality will shed light on the history of Konya through archaeological excavations in the 100th year of the Republic. Archaeological excavations to be carried out in the centers of Karahüyük (Meram), Lystra (Meram), Savatra (Karatay), Çatalhöyük (Çumra), and Kubadabad (Beyşehir) will be conducted under the auspices of Konya Metropolitan Municipality. The findings obtained from the excavations will be exhibited at Konya Museum. The activities in these areas aim to document and reveal the unknown aspects of Konya's history and human history as a whole.

Kilistra Ancient City

Kilistra Ancient City is located 45 kilometers southwest of Konya, within the Gökyurt Village of Hatunsaray (Lystra) District in Meram. It witnessed significant settlement during the Hellenistic and Roman periods and rapidly grew during the Early Christian period (6th-13th centuries AD). Over time, Kilistra adopted an architectural style similar to that of Cappadocia.

Karahöyük

Karahöyük is a mound located approximately 7 km southwest of the city center of Konya. Since there are multiple settlements named Karahöyük within the boundaries of Konya province, this mound is referred to as Karahöyük 1. It consists of eleven small hills, with one of them being larger in size. The settlement on these hills reaches a width of 1,000 x 500 meters. Excavations have revealed that the main soil layer is reached at a depth of 29 meters, indicating the presence of a thick fill layer underneath.

Savatra Ancient City

Savatra Ancient City, located on the slopes of Bozdağ, is situated in the easternmost part of the Lycaonia Region, along with its neighboring ancient cities of Perta and Kana. From ancient times to the present day, many writers and researchers have mentioned Savatra Ancient City.

Çatalhöyük

Çatalhöyük, for the past 2,000 years, has existed in its original location within the boundaries of the Küçükköy neighborhood in the Çumra district. It mesmerizes visitors with its fascinating architectural structures and a city that still appears vibrant today. Just 9 kilometers away, its ancestor Boncukluhöyük also awaits visitors.

Kubadabad Palace

The famous Seljuk Sultan Alaaddin Keykubad had Kubadabad Palace constructed to the west of Beyşehir, north of the Gölyaka village. The architect of the palace was Sadettin Köpek, who was the hunting commander and architect of that period.
