Karatay Municipality Leads with Zero Waste Initiatives

Karatay Municipality continues to draw attention with its exemplary projects in environmental awareness and sustainability.

Within this scope, the "Zero Waste Point" and "1st Class Waste Collection Center" projects were examined on-site by a technical team of approximately 60 people, including representatives from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, the Turkish Environmental Agency, the Konya Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, and various provincial and district municipalities from across Turkey.

Environmental Engineers Mustafa Çağrı Kaya and Fatih Çeprek from the Karatay Municipality Climate Change and Zero Waste Directorate provided the delegation with detailed information about the projects' objectives, operations, achievements, and the innovative methods implemented to achieve zero waste goals.

The delegation members emphasized that significant efforts have been made to implement the projects and to raise awareness and consciousness about Zero Waste.

Karatay has embraced the Zero Waste movement, implementing effective strategies to reduce, reuse, and recycle waste. Their efforts have earned them recognition as a Zero Waste Municipality, setting a benchmark for others to follow.

To encourage recycling and promote circular economy principles, Karatay established the 1st Karatay Recycle Bazaar. This platform provides a venue for residents to exchange recyclable materials and reuse items, diverting them from landfills.

Recognizing the importance of education, Karatay has launched comprehensive environmental education programs. These initiatives target schools, communities, and businesses, raising awareness about environmental issues and promoting sustainable practices.
