The Konya Metropolitan Municipality is rapidly continuing its restoration efforts on the Habib-i Neccar Mosque in Hatay, which was destroyed in the earthquakes on February 6, 2023.
Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay emphasized that the ongoing restoration efforts are not just about repairing a building, but also about establishing a bridge of hearts between the two cities.
Mayor Altay reminded that the Habib-i Neccar Mosque is known as the first mosque in Anatolia, stating, "The Habib-i Neccar Mosque is not only the heritage of Hatay but also the shared heritage of the entire Islamic world. It is a great honor and responsibility for us to restore such a legacy. After the earthquake disaster, Konya's efforts in Hatay are considered one of the finest examples of brotherhood and solidarity. Konya, which has supported Hatay in many areas such as housing, logistical support, social services, and infrastructure, is now making this support permanent through the restoration of the Habib-i Neccar Mosque. Every task we undertake here is a legacy of brotherhood that we will pass on to future generations. As Konya, we will continue to stand by Hatay. We will complete the work at the first mosque of Anatolia as soon as possible. The restoration of the Habib-i Neccar Mosque will not only be the restoration of a building; it will also be a symbol of unity, togetherness, and brotherhood."
