Konya Became the Capital of the Seljuks 927 Years Ago

Konya Metropolitan Municipality organized the "Seljuk Capital Konya" program to commemorate the 927th anniversary of Konya becoming the capital of the Seljuk Empire.


The program, organized by the Konya Metropolitan Municipality in the courtyard of Alaaddin Mosque on Alaaddin Hill, began with a recitation of the Quran.


A "Gülbank" prayer was performed by Ahmet Sami Küçük, the leader of the Konya Turkish Sufi Music Ensemble of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.


Participants of the program listened to the Nevbe Ceremony performed by the Turkish Music Performance Ensemble of the Konya Metropolitan Municipality.


In his speech, Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay stated that Konya, which became the capital in 1097, is one of the foremost cities that have shaped ancient civilization.


Konya Governor Vahdettin Özkan also remarked that when Konya is mentioned, it brings to mind a city that is a center of attraction for knowledge, wisdom, and enlightenment.


AK Party Konya Member of Parliament Mehmet Baykan also stated that Konya is the city where the Seljuks experienced their most magnificent times and where the paths leading to the Ottoman Empire and later the Republic of Turkey were opened.
