Celebrations to mark the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey began in Konya on Saturday, October 28. The celebrations, which began with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Atatürk Monument, will continue on Sunday, October 29, with a series of events in the city center.
On Saturday, Konya Governor Vahdettin Özkan, Mayor of Metropolitan Municipality Uğur İbrahim Altay, protocol members, and citizens laid wreaths at the Atatürk Monument. After a moment of silence and the singing of the Turkish National Anthem, Governor Özkan gave a speech.
Later, an event named "100 Bicycle Teacher-Student Meeting" featuring a bicycle tour was held.
The start of the bicycle tour was given by Konya Governor Vahdettin Özkan. The program was attended by Governor Vahdettin Özkan, Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay, as well as military and civil authorities, political party representatives, veterans, families of martyrs, students, and citizens.
