Konya Brought Together Scientists

Selçuk University (SU) Faculty of Medicine, Department of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery organized the "12th International Balkan Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery Association (BAPRAS) Congress."

 

The 12th International Balkan Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery Association (BAPRAS) Congress took place at the Selçuklu Congress Center, with the hosting by the Selçuk University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery. This event was organized with contributions from the Balkan Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery Association (BAPRAS) and the Turkish Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery Association (TPRECD).

 

Before the congress at Selçuk University Faculty of Medicine Hospital, over 10 educators provided training to more than 30 doctors from various countries around the world through live surgeries and courses. During the congress, participants were briefed on the latest developments in aesthetic and plastic surgery. The congress, which was conducted in English, also provided practical knowledge to participants through live surgeries and demonstrations. Within the framework of the congress, a Plastic Surgery Summit of Turkic Republics was held with the participation of not only Turkey but also Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan.

 

During the congress, Selçuk University's Rector, Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy, emphasized that as Turkey enters the 21st century, there have been remarkable developments in various fields. He stated, "Today, Turkey ranks as the 5th country globally in the field of plastic surgery. Selçuk University has taken significant steps in education, research, and healthcare services. We place great importance on health sciences, hosting faculties of Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Health Sciences. Our Simulation Training Center, equipped with virtual reality technology, allows students to practice medical procedures with an unprecedented level of realism. This innovative approach eliminates the need for cadavers and provides practical experience to medical practitioners, preparing them for the challenges and opportunities of modern healthcare services."

 

This year's 12th congress, which involved the participation of scientists from 13 Balkan countries and Central Asian republics, marked the second time Turkey hosted the event. The congress, featuring a total of 40 sessions, was structured to include one day of live surgeries and live courses at Selçuk University Faculty of Medicine Hospital and three days of sessions in four different halls.

 

Within the framework of the congress, which saw the participation of nearly 400 scientists and the presentation of over 300 papers, social programs and city tours were also organized to showcase Konya's culture. The Balkan Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery Association will be transformed into a federation this year to enable more active operations. Konya will also host the establishment of the Turkish-speaking Countries Plastic Surgeons Association. The congress concluded on September 16th.
