Konya hosts the world's most beautiful butterflies

At the Tropical Butterfly Garden, one of the windows through which Konya's tourism opens to the world, the project in collaboration between the Seljuk Municipality and the Panama Embassy has resulted in the fluttering of Panama and Costa Rican butterflies as well.

The Tropical Butterfly Garden, which was brought to Konya by the Seljuk Municipality and is the second most visited tourist destination after the Mevlana Mausoleum, is now also hosting butterflies from Panama and Costa Rica as part of a project carried out in collaboration with the Panama Embassy.

As part of the project, Selçuklu Mayor Ahmet Pekyatırmacı, Panama Ambassador Maria Sagel Culture and Trade Attaché Christine Brostella, and Costa Rican Ambassador Gustavo Campos Fallas released the butterflies from the stands to the flight area.

Panama Ambassador Sagel: "Konya Tropical Butterfly Garden will be the new paradise for butterflies."

Panama Ambassador Maria Sagel, who mentioned that Panama is one of the countries with the highest butterfly diversity in the world:

"Last year, in April, when I visited this wonderful butterfly garden for the first time, I thought, why shouldn't Panama's butterflies also be represented here? I started looking for an institute in my country that is interested in the breeding of these creatures. Thousands of different bird and butterfly species await discovery in the colorful rainforests surrounding the Panama Canal, and the bright colors of endemic butterflies attract the attention of people from all over the world. The local people learn how to breed and protect them and send them to their new homes in recreated paradises like the Konya Tropical Butterfly Garden, far away from the forests. I wish a long life to the Panamanian butterflies in the garden."

Mayor Ahmet Pekyatırmacı expressed his happiness about hosting the valuable ambassadors at the Konya Tropical Butterfly Garden and said that it had become a brand of Turkey. He mentioned that the butterfly diversity of the garden has increased with the project carried out in collaboration with the Panama Embassy, and they are glad to host the butterflies from Panama in the garden. He thanked Ambassador Sagel for her exceptional effort and dedication in this regard. Pekyatırmacı also stated that the garden attracts over 500,000 visitors annually, and guests from all around Turkey and abroad come to Konya to see the tropical butterfly garden.

After the speeches, Mayor Pekyatırmacı presented the Panama Ambassador Maria Sagel, Cultural and Trade Attaché Christine Brostella, and Costa Rica Ambassador Gustavo Campos Fallas with a double-headed eagle and butterfly lapel pin.
