Konya Metropolitan Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay stated that they
have been carrying out search and rescue operations in Hatay immediately after
the earthquake that occurred on the morning of February 6, as well as
infrastructure, logistics, mobile kitchens, communication, energy supply,
container city, and mobile health vehicle operations. Mayor Altay emphasized
that they started intensive work from the first day of the earthquake to solve
Hatay's water problem and said that their goal is to contribute to the quick
healing of wounds and the return of the city to normalcy as soon as possible.
Mayor Altay stated that during the one-month period after
the earthquake, regarding the works carried out by the KOSKİ General
Directorate in the region, "A total of 310 KOSKİ personnel were sent to
the region with certain rotation periods from the first day of the earthquake.
Our first teams to work under KOSKİ were sent to Hatay on the day of the
earthquake, February 6. On the same day, 6 generators were installed to meet
the energy needs in the areas where search and rescue teams and citizens were
intensively present. On the night of February 6, a light tower capable of
illuminating about 1 square kilometer was also transported to Hatay. On
February 7, 2 cranes, 2 acoustic listening vehicles, 2 tracked excavators, and
9,000 cases of drinking water were sent to the region to assist in search and
rescue operations."
Mayor Altay stated that they have completed the repairs of
the main carrier network in Hatay and have started to work on local
malfunctions and daily reports. He also mentioned that they have started to
provide water from two different filling stations to the tankers of their
municipality, other public institutions, and citizens in Serinyol, which is one
of the city's significant water sources, after putting the second well into
service. The infrastructure works in Serinyol, Samandağ, and İskenderun have
largely been completed, and they have solved many infrastructure problems,
including maintenance and repair operations of main pipes and valves in these
districts. The city now receives water, but they continue to repair the network
in Antakya and Defne districts as various malfunctions have occurred in the
pipeline.
We have fixed the 300mm diameter steel pipe that supplies
water to the 1,500 cubic meter reservoir located in Maşuklu neighborhood, and
shared the information that approximately 80 lt/sec of water is being delivered
to the people of Hatay as a result. Mayor Altay also added that KOSKI teams are
working day and night to completely solve Hatay's water problem. Konya
Metropolitan Municipality KOSKI General Directorate teams, who also intervene
in electrical malfunctions in many different parts of Hatay, continue to
provide mobile toilet and shower services with 646 mobile toilets and 229
cabins.
