Konya Prepares for Historic Bedesten Shopping Days

The fourth edition of the “Historic Bedesten Shopping Days,” organized annually by Konya Metropolitan Municipality, is getting ready to welcome the people of Konya.

Uğur İbrahim Altay, Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality, emphasized that one of the most beautiful legacies of Konya’s ancient history, spanning from the Seljuk and Ottoman periods to the present day, is the Historic Bedesten.

Mayor Altay stated that this year, the fourth edition of the Historic Bedesten Shopping Days will be held in Konya to boost economic activity and revive traditional crafts at risk of being forgotten. He added, “Our Historic Bedesten is a vital living part of this ancient heritage. It is not just a place for shopping; friendships are formed here, culture is shared, and connections with the past are made. We organize this event to keep this spirit alive and pass it on to future generations. Our shopkeepers will also offer special discounts for these days. I invite all residents of Konya and visitors from nearby cities to the Bedesten, the heart of our city.”

As part of the Historic Bedesten Shopping Days, which will take place on September 12, 13, and 14, events will include a parade, historical reenactments with traditional costumes, concerts by the Mehteran Band, displays of traditional handicrafts, street performances, antique exhibitions and auctions, children’s activities, and various workshops.
