Konya Sets Example with Sustainable and Accessible Urban Transportation

In Konya, which offers the most affordable student transportation in Türkiye, the Metropolitan Municipality provided services to millions of passengers throughout 2025.

Uğur İbrahim Altay, Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality, said that the city continues to set an example with its strong public transportation network and transportation policies that are sustainable, environmentally friendly, and focused on citizen satisfaction.

Uğur İbrahim Altay recalled that Konya remains Türkiye’s most affordable city for student transportation and emphasized that they continue to invest in low-cost yet high-quality public transport services.

Uğur İbrahim Altay stated that buses and trams providing public transportation under Konya Metropolitan Municipality continued to operate intensively across the city throughout 2025, saying:

“With our strong infrastructure, environmentally friendly and comfortable vehicles, and extensive service network, we make daily life easier for our residents. Last year, our buses traveled 31,339,927 kilometers and operated more than 964,000 trips. During this period, we safely and comfortably transported 83,315,997 passengers by bus. Our trams, which form the backbone of urban transportation, ran 77,694 services and served 34,170,949 passengers. Throughout 2025, we carried more than 117 million passengers in total with our buses and trams.”

Uğur İbrahim Altay noted that the transportation fleet has been strengthened in recent years with next-generation, environmentally friendly, and accessible buses, steadily improving service quality. He said:

“With the new buses added to our fleet, we are increasing the number of services while working to provide our citizens with more affordable, high-quality, safe, and fast transportation. Making public transport more attractive, reducing the use of private vehicles, and protecting the environment are among our top priorities. We will continue to work tirelessly and with determination for Konya.”
