Konya Metropolitan Municipality's efforts under its Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) were showcased as a model at the International Urban Mobility Conference and the closing event of the Turkey Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning Project.
The International Urban Mobility Conference and the closing event of the Turkey Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning Project were held in Ankara with the participation of experts from Europe and Turkey, representatives of municipalities and non-governmental organizations, embassy officials, ministry executives, and academics.
In the closing session, a panel titled “Fostering Change: Case Studies from Turkey and Europe” was held. Experts and city representatives from countries including Germany, the Netherlands, Hungary, and Poland, along with Turkey, took part in the session. During the panel, Konya Metropolitan Municipality shared its urban mobility planning process, strategies, and practices with the participants.
Konya’s transportation policies—developed under its Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) and focused on accessibility, environmental sustainability, innovation, and a people-centered approach—stood out as one of the key examples highlighted during the session.
Konya’s sustainable transportation policy aims to strengthen the public transport network, reduce carbon emissions, and enhance the quality of urban life.
Through the SUMP process, Konya adopts a transportation model that considers environmental impacts and promotes sustainability. The approach presented at the event once again demonstrated that Konya is positioned as an inspiring city not only on a national scale in Turkey but also at the international level.
