Konya Metropolitan Municipality is rapidly continuing the construction of the City Library on the site of the old municipal building.
Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay emphasized the importance of the library they are constructing with a sustainable and environmentally friendly approach, saying, “We have completed approximately 65% of the construction. Our City Library will be a center of culture and education that appeals to people of all ages, featuring a digital library, spacious library areas, study centers, study spaces, and green areas for reading. Once completed, our project will stand out on a scale to be cited as an example in Turkey, with its strong technological infrastructure, accessible design, and innovative applications prioritizing user comfort. The City Library will become one of the symbolic structures of our city.”
Mayor Altay highlighted that the City Library will be a center of culture and education appealing to users of all ages, with areas integrated with nature and designated spaces for reading. He stated, “Our new library, located in the city center as a space of culture and memory, will embrace Konya’s cultural heritage spanning centuries while also meeting the learning needs of the new generation. At the same time, we are carrying out our work with great care, guided by our principle of protecting greenery and nature. During the construction process, we have taken care to preserve the trees in the old municipal building’s garden, which have stood there for over half a century. The fact that none of our trees have been cut is an important indicator of our project’s environmentally friendly approach.”
