Twin town protocol was signed between Selçuklu Municipality and Penonomé Municipality. With this protocol, butterflies of Panama will flutter their wings in Selçuklu.
Selçuklu Mayor Ahmet Pekyatırmacı was in Panama for the twin
town protocol signing ceremony with Penonomé Municipality.
Thanks to the protocol signed between Turkey and Panama's
local administrations, which bears the distinction of being a first between
local governments, cooperation in the field of development will be established
between the two local administrations.
With the protocol signed between Selçuklu Mayor Ahmet
Pekyatırmacı and Penonomé Mayor Paula Gonzolez, a caterpillar entering a chrysalis,
known as "pupa" in Panama, will emerge as a butterfly in Konya. Thus,
the Tropical Butterfly Garden, one of the windows of Konya tourism to the
world, will continue to increase its biodiversity.
Selçuklu Mayor Ahmet Pekyatırmacı stated, “We have Europe's
largest and Turkey's only butterfly flight area in Konya Tropical Butterfly
Garden. We have recreated the natural habitat found in Panama artificially in
Konya. In the Penonomé city of Panama, butterfly pupae will now be produced for
the Konya Tropical Butterfly Garden, and with the support of Turkish Airlines
cargo network, they will be swiftly transported from Panama to Konya. From now
on, we will showcase the Blue Morpho butterflies, especially those produced in
Panama, to all our visitors in the Konya Tropical Butterfly Garden.”
