Thousands Join Simultaneous Cycling Rides Across Konya’s 28 Districts

Konya Metropolitan Municipality organized a cycling event in Konya, the 2026 European Capital of Cycling, bringing together thousands of participants across the city center and 28 districts simultaneously.


In the cycling event held simultaneously across 28 districts, district mayors and residents of Konya joined in the excitement together.


At the event, which produced colorful scenes, cycling enthusiasts rode along designated routes, joining the celebration of World Bicycle Day while also drawing attention to healthy living and raising awareness of cycling.


Mayor Altay, who also reminded that Konya has the longest bicycle network in Türkiye with a total of 680 kilometers of cycling paths, said: “In this city where all the needs of bicycles are met, we will continue to organize various activities to further increase safe cycling use. I would like to thank all our fellow citizens of Konya who joined us today.”


Cycling enthusiasts who took part in the rides both in the city center and across the 28 districts stated that they found the organization highly successful and thanked Mayor Altay and Konya Metropolitan Municipality. Participants also called for greater respect for cyclists in traffic and expressed their desire for an expansion of bicycle lanes and cycling-based transportation opportunities.
