EU Delegation Visits Konya

Meyer-Landrut, along with the EU Delegation to Turkey team and expert environmental scientists, came to Konya to conduct various inspections.

The team visited the Neolithic site of Çatalhöyük in Konya's Çumra district, where they tasted dishes prepared using approximately 9,000-year-old recipes from the Hittite cuisine, in the area where the first agricultural activities were conducted.

Meyer-Landrut conducted inspections at the Çatalhöyük excavation site and received information from the officials.

After, The Head of the EU Delegation to Turkey, Meyer-Landrut, met with journalists in Konya. Meyer-Landrut stated that Konya is one of the cities most severely affected by global climate change.

The Head of the EU Delegation to Turkey, Ambassador Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut, emphasized that the climate crisis is one of the most significant problems of our time, stating, "We can see its effects everywhere, whether it be temperature, drought, excessive rainfall, or seasonal shifts. These results are visible to all of us, and we directly feel these impacts in both our economy and our lives."

Meyer-Landrut stated that Konya is one of the pilot provinces in the Climate Adaptation and Action Plans Program, and mentioned that positive results had been obtained from previous efforts in Konya.

Meyer-Landrut continued:

"Tomorrow, we will have the opportunity to see these effects on the ground. In addition to the impacts, we will also see firsthand what needs to be done. Tomorrow, we will witness a financially smaller but very significant aspect of the project. We will emphasize the importance of traditional farming practices here. Water usage in agriculture is also one of the issues that needs to be addressed. We will meet with the young farmers because these problems will soon be theirs to deal with."

Meyer-Landrut added that the team would conduct inspections in the Tuz Lake basin.
