Konya Metropolitan Municipality hosted the 15th General Conference of the Organization of Islamic Capitals and Cities (OICC), which has 187 members from 57 Islamic countries.
At the opening ceremony of the OICC General Conference, Aziz Lomaini, the Deputy Mayor of Rabat, Morocco, and the President of the 14th General Conference of OICC, expressed hope for the conference to yield positive results and contribute to the development of Islamic capitals and cities.
Lomaini emphasized that Konya is a beautiful, clean, and noble city, and he thanked the Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality, Uğur İbrahim Altay, for the hospitality.
Uğur İbrahim Altay, the Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality and the President of the 15th General Conference of OICC, expressed his hope that the conference would lead cities towards even brighter tomorrows, opening the door to a more livable world dominated by peace and brotherhood.
OICC Secretary-General, Ömer bin Abdullah El-Kadı, remarked that Konya is considered one of the oldest cities where humanity settled. Particularly in Anatolia, it is known as the oldest, most ancient, and deeply rooted city. Its architecture and urbanization flourished during the period when it served as the capital of the Seljuk State. He expressed his views on Konya, highlighting its beautiful, ancient, and rich history.
