History of Konyaspor

History of Konyaspor

Konyaspor, founded in 1922, has now entered its 103rd year, continuing to grow through its historic achievements.

Konyaspor was originally founded as Konya Gençlerbirliği on June 22, 1922. In 1965, the club merged with Meramspor, Selçukspor, and Çimentospor, adopting the name Konyaspor.

The club initially played in black and white colors until 1981. However, after merging with their rival, Konya İdman Yurdu, at the end of the 1980-81 season, Konyaspor adopted their rival's colors, green and white.

The Atatürk Stadium, where Konyaspor played for many years, was opened in 1950 with a capacity of 22,456. While the club’s founding year was initially marked as 1981, it was officially changed to 1922 during the General Assembly in September 2016. In 2014, Konyaspor moved to the newly constructed Konya Büyükşehir Belediye Stadium, which replaced the Atatürk Stadium as their home ground.
