Konya Launches Shared Electric Bicycle System

Konya Launches Shared Electric Bicycle System

Konya Metropolitan Municipality has made another significant contribution to the vision of sustainable transportation in Konya, a city known as Turkey’s bicycle capital.

Konya Metropolitan Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay stated that Konya, with its 680 kilometers of bicycle paths, ranks among the world’s leading bicycle-friendly cities.

Stating that Konya has long provided its residents with significant services to make cycling not just a sport but a natural part of daily life, Mayor Altay said, “Now, the era of shared electric bicycles has begun in our bicycle city, Konya. This will allow our citizens to travel long distances quickly, comfortably, and without fatigue. We believe that in Konya, which will carry the title of European Bicycle Capital next year, this service will further increase the rate of bicycle use. We started the system with 250 bicycles and plan to expand it quickly based on public demand. I hope this will be beneficial for our city.”

The system, operated by KONBELTAŞ, a subsidiary of Konya Metropolitan Municipality, and running on the Tripy Bicycle infrastructure, has initially introduced 250 electric bicycles. These bicycles can be rented through a mobile application and can be parked at any location at the end of the ride, without obstructing pedestrians or vehicle traffic.

Shared electric bicycle systems, which are rapidly spreading worldwide, are preferred for their eco-friendly nature, cost-effective transportation options, and ability to reduce traffic congestion.

The system launched in Konya is also expected to make a significant contribution to the city’s cycling awareness and overall quality of life.
