Turkish Wrestler Earns World Ranking Points in Zagreb

Konya Metropolitan Municipality Sports Club, which stands out for its investments in the future of Turkish sports, has achieved another international success in wrestling.


Ömer Halis Recep, the national wrestler of Konya Metropolitan Municipality Sports Club, competed at the Zagreb Open Ranking Series Wrestling Tournament, held in the Croatian capital Zagreb between 4 and 8 February.


At the tournament, which brought together leading figures of world wrestling, the national wrestler overcame tough opponents to win the bronze medal, adding another source of pride to Turkish wrestling.


Competing in the Greco-Roman 55 kg category in the crescent-and-star jersey, Ömer Halis began the tournament with a first-round loss to his Uzbek opponent, Ikhtiyor Botirov. After his opponent advanced to the final, the national wrestler earned a place in the repechage, where he defeated Georgian athlete Koba Karumidze by fall to qualify for the bronze medal match.


Facing Kazakhstan’s Arsen Zhuma in the bronze medal bout, the Konya Metropolitan Municipality athlete defeated his opponent 8–0 by technical superiority to claim the medal.


With this result, the successful athlete not only stepped onto the podium but also earned crucial points toward the world rankings.
