Konya is centrally located in Turkey and easily accessible. Its historical significance as the Seljuk capital, combined with its natural beauty, lakes, forests, and rich heritage dating back to Çatalhöyük, makes it a popular destination for campers.
There are many free camping areas where visitors can pitch tents or park caravans and enjoy a holiday in nature. Although camping in Konya is most popular during the spring, visitors have increasingly started exploring these areas in other seasons as well.
Many of the most popular camping areas are found in Beyşehir. Beyşehir is a natural wonder, with Beyşehir Lake—the largest freshwater lake in Turkey—drawing campers with its scenic beauty. The lake’s clean, shallow waters make swimming comfortable, making it a favorite summer destination.
Campers seeking relief from the summer heat prefer the cooler slopes of the surrounding mountains. Those interested in combining nature with history often choose Takkeli Mountain, where Gavela Castle is located.
Some of the notable free camping sites in Konya include Beyşehir Karaburun Beach Camping Area, Takkeli Mountain Camping Area, Mekve Lake Camping Area, Ilgın Yeşilgöl Camping Area, Eğrigöl Camping Area, Taşkent Çetmi Waterfall Camping Area, Göksu Waterfall Camping Area, Yeşildağ Camping Area, and Karatay Municipality Caravan Camping Area.
